Hello everybody.. as you can see.. i’ve started the Gulgul Chronicles! (Gulgul refers to  Google). This is just the first part of a long unplanned series. Im gna share my knowledge and apperciation for the google apps and way they can really help you. The Hard Practicle way! not some things here and there that look awsme but in the end is useless. I will try to make it in such a way that each Chapter of the GulGul Chronicles helps u in someway to improve your online experience.

Well.. the first step is to get a google account. I thougt of illustrating that.. ut its far too easy. www.gmail.com, sign up within 30secs and u’ve got a brand new Gmail adress. so im gna create a new gmail accnt to this article.  *good idea*

so the new gmail address is : gulgulchronicles@gmail.com

for those who didnt know. Gmail has the best interface you could possibly imagine for Emailing operations. (much more.. you’l see later.)

So lets start.

Chapter 1 : Bookmarking using Gmail

you were surfing the net.. suddenly you found a website.. its seems so cool at first glance.. but u dnt av time to view it. You’ve got to go to Uni! what to do!!? bookmark it ofcourse. using firefox? or other social bookmarking? yeah why not… but what if you could get everthign at onle place. At a place you visit very odten? say you email inbox? you GMAIL InBOX??

LABELS AND FILTERS

what are these? what im i talking about? well these two features, according to me are the most powerfull features you have in you gmail. and you can accomplish a lot of task using these two Feature. Lets see:

Labels :

Unlike other email clients.. gmail doesnt use folders.. in which u put your emails.. on the contrary.. it uses LABELS. Like a tag you’d stick onto each email. Say you’ve recieve 50 Forwarded emails per day. instead of creating a folder(named : FWD) and moving all the mails in it. You simply asssing lables to the emails. The big advantage about this is that, its difficult to put ONE email in more than one flders, but so much easier to stick multiple labels to an email! ryt?

Filters :

Labels and folders… pff… what the big difference?? if i recieve 50 mails.. i still have to select all of them and move them to either label or folders… what the point?? HEre comes the filters! In a filter you specify certain conditions and wen you recieve an email, Gmail automatically filters it. Say you specified that:

IF an email contains the word “FW: ” THEN

apply the label “FWD”

mark “as read”

You get 1000 FWD message?? they are all given a FWD label and are marked as read(if u dnt like reading those shits) quite cool. isnt it?

Bookmarking?? How??

Create a Label : Bookmarks

in the Apply the Label dropdown, select Bookmarks (the label we created previously.

You’ve got a cool video on youtube!  shit! late for work! ur thinking of viewing the video at work! whats the fastest way to save it and get it there??

open Gmail, Compose mail!

1 : Enter you own email adress

2 : Enter the The Title of the bookmarks in Subject

3 : write the word “bookmark” anywhere in the email

4 : paste the link

Click send! DONE!

Check your inbox.

You should see an email. with the Label Bookmarks. If you’ve go a lot of emails, you want to display only the emails with the Label Bookmarks, on the right side of your gmail interface you have a little Labels blox in which you have all the labels you created. simply click Bookmarks.

Advantages :

1. You have your emails and bookmarks in one place

2. Accessible ANYTIME ANYPlACE! even with a slow connection(Gmail will work)

3. Use colored labels to make advanced bookmarking. (Video Clip bookmarks, Warez Bookmarks, Blogs Bookmarks) getting cool ryt?

4. You can share it with you friends simply by forwarding the mail. Because… dear dear.. your are already in you email inbox..

5. Tell me another adv youself or Disadv.

Thats it!  I hope it wasnt too boring. I knw a lot of you Gmail users already knew abt this. This targeted mainly non-Gmail users. To show them why many ppl moved to gmail. Please Drop your comments!
